"Graves Had Nothing To Say On The Record"

Graves subpoenaed by election opponent (The Advocate)

Congressional candidate Garret Graves was served a subpoena last week prior to a campaign forum in Central. Opponent Cassie Felder is demanding that Graves answer questions under oath later this month about his hiring of The Political Firm.

Graves had nothing to say on the record.

Felder and Graves, both Baton Rouge Republicans, are among the 13 candidates running to replace U.S. Rep. Bill Cassidy in representing the district that stretches from south Baton Rouge into the far west New Orleans suburbs and south to parts of Thibodaux and Houma.

Felder contracted in September 2013 with Scott Hobbs and Jason Hebert, of The Political Firm, to handle her campaign. In March 2014, Hobbs terminated the contract and about two weeks later was contacted by Graves. They signed on with the Graves campaign.
Felder sought, but was denied, an injunction to keep the political strategists from working for her opponent in the campaign for the Nov. 4 election. But the underlying breach of contract lawsuit continues. She appealed the refusal of the injunction.

Hobbs brought up the timeline during testimony and Felder has a right to explore what Graves knew and when it he knew it, said Matt Beeson, a spokesman for Felder’s campaign.

Hobbs and Hebert had no comment.

BLAST FROM THE PAST: Questions remain about (GRAVES) potential conflict

Questions remain about (GRAVES) potential conflict

Published: Sunday, February 3, 2008 at 6:01 a.m.

BATON ROUGE – Should the son of an executive who does work for the state and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers be appointed to a position that oversees coastal affairs?
The administration of Gov. Bobby Jindal answered in the affirmative this week.
A legal opinion written by Jimmy Faircloth, the governor’s executive counsel, outlines how the arrangement can work without conflict, but interviews conducted with various players on Jindal’s team have done little to explain how the situation finally came into the sunshine.
The father of Garret Graves, Jindal’s senior coastal advisor, is the owner of an engineering firm that is among the top contract holders in Louisiana with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
By law, Garret Graves also serves as chairman of the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority, whose primary partner is the corps.
To be more specific, Evans-Graves Engineers, which has offices in Baton Rouge and New Orleans, made $47 million last year from corps contracts alone, according to USAspending.gov, a fiscal accountability Web site supported by the federal government. The engineering firm also confirmed the tally.

CONGRESSIONAL CANDIDATE GARRET GRAVES SUBPOENAED TO TESTIFY, PROVIDE ACCESS TO PERSONAL COMMUNICATIONS

EXCERPT FROM LAPOLTICS WEEKLY

When Garret Graves, showed up for a debate Monday night in Central, he received more than just a few barbs from the opposition. He was served with papers asking him to testify in an ongoing lawsuit and to provide access to his personal communications, according to sources.

Fellow candidate and attorney Cassie Felder has filed a lawsuit against one of Grave's consultants, The Political Firm, for dumping her as a client and signing on with Graves. One of the firm's partners, during testimony, said they were recruited by Graves, which is how the candidate got pulled into the litigation. The firm is being sued for breaches of confidentiality and non-competition.

In an earlier interview, sources involved with the litigation said the discovery process "may get uncomfortable for some folks." From a purely political standpoint, taking part in a deposition or offering testimony under oath is not the most ideal activity for a candidate for any office, much less a high-profile congressional race.

Legislators In Races Around State

EXCERPT FROM LAPOLITICS WEEKLY

In House District 97, left vacant by New Orleans Councilman Jared Brossett, only two candidates qualified. (T)wo Democrats with roots in old-school Crescent City politics emerged: Eugene Green, who once worked for disgraced former Congressman Bill Jefferson and former Mayor Marc Morial, and Joe Bouie, who challenged and lost to Brossett in the council elections held earlier this year. Given Bouie's recent loss in a council district that takes up a large part of the House district, sources give Green the early edge. Rep. Jeff Arnold, D-New Orleans, is also said to be helping Green, who lost his own at-large council race against an incumbent in February but supposedly managed to build strong coalitions in the process.

Rep. Alfred Williams, D-Baton Rouge, is facing two challengers in the 19th Judicial District. With only one opponent, Rep. Hunter Greene, R-Baton Rouge, will have his race decided for the city's Family Court after the November vote. And in Rapides Parish, Rep. Chris Hazel, R-Ball, is running for district attorney in a three-way field that should produce a runoff between either him, former Rep. Chris Roy or Pineville City Judge Phillip Terrell.

Rep. Patrick Williams, D-Shreveport, is running against six others for mayor of Shreveport. With his fundraising base partly in Baton Rouge and supposedly thriving, local elected officials expect him to at least make the runoff. How much Shreveport Mayor Cedric Glover gets involved remains to be seen. Connections to Glover can be made to the candidacies of Shreveport Councilman Sam Jenkins and Ollie Tyler, the former Caddo school superintendent and interim state education superintendent. Also worth watching is whether Sen. Greg Tarver, D-Shreveport, steps into the race as an influencer. He heads up a political machine that's at odds with Glover and he could very well pick his own candidate. The animosity between the two has apparently led to speculation that Glover may stand toe-to-toe next year to challenge Tarver's re-election to the Senate.

RESPONSE TO THE PERSONAL ATTACK ON PAT BERGERON

RESPONSE TO THE PERSONAL ATTACK ON PAT BERGERON THIS PAST WEEK BY MR. SCOTT McKAY PUBLISHER OF THE 'HAYRIDE':

When you look for accurate political information the first thing you normally look for is the credibility of the source.

In this case the source attacked me personally, calling me, "an old-time Louisiana political operator known for being the guy you hire when you want to do black-bag operations." The term "black bag" refers to the little black bag in which burglars carry their tools. Basically this guy called me a petty criminal.

For those of you who don't know me well I am a graduate of Baton Rouge High School and LSU, the father of 4 grown children and a 41 year veteran of Louisiana politics and public policy.

While in college I served as a tennis instructor, volunteer coordinator for several poltical campaigns and worked as a Sergeant-at-arms in the State Legislature. After graduate school I served for a decade as communications director and a spokesman for the association representing Louisiana's 64 parish governments at the Capitol. During this time I was very politically active participating in various capacities in dozens of political campaigns. As a result I was appointed to serve on numerous state and local boards and commissions including the EBR Metro-Council, Chairman of BREC, Chairman of the Board of Elections, Vice-President of the Port Commission and as a member of numerous others.

Later I was appointed to serve as political and governmental affairs director for the 4th Congressional District. After this stint working for the federal government I was hired by a well known, award winning political consulting firm handling dozens of campaigns. I later went out on my own serving as campaign manager, strategist, media consultant and communications director for numerous political and issue races. For the next four years, I was appointed Chief of Staff of the much acclaimed Louisiana Department of Elections and afterward went back into private practice.

Over the years I have played prominent roles in some of the most dramatic upset victory campaigns in Louisiana history. I've had the privilege of lecturing on political communications and public policy at three major Louisiana Universities, served as an advisor to three Governors, numerous Congressmen, several statewide elected officials and many lower office holders.

The past few years I have mentored hundreds of conservative political activists through my political communications and public policy seminars. All of my adult life I have volunteered my time and played a leadership role in non-profit and charitable groups as well as Father's clubs at three parochial schools in Baton Rouge.

People pay for my advice based on my institutional knowledge and a strong track record of success. That is why it stings when I tell the truth about a candidate's history.

As for credibility of the source, I have been able to find no constructive activity on Mr. Scott McKay's part whatsoever (ZERO), much less any experience that qualifies him to report on issues of politics or public policy.

I'm a huge supporter of the First Amendment but, nasty, snarky, malicious, sophomoric little quips impugning a persons integrity and character without any tangible evidence or inkling of truth can land someone in a world of hurt.

Obviously, Mr. McKay is shilling for the Cussin' Congressional candidate Mr. Garret Graves in his feeble attempt to kill the messenger.

This messenger has been shot at many times over the past four decades by the best in the business. I shoot back...

GARRET GRAVES KISSING MARY LANDRIEU (THE UNCUT VERSION)

Above is a screenshot from the pre-edited version of the Mary Landrieu qualifying video. If you have been paying attention, a political action committee produced and released this video Wednesday. After the blowback from the segment featuring Republican 6th District Congressional candidate Garret Graves kissing incumbent Democrat U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu the video was edited to remove that segment.

This blog asked the still unanswered questions, why was it clipped and who did it? Since that time it came to our attention that political consultants from the Garret Graves campaign also work for the PAC in question. These same consultants have come under fire recently in a contract dispute lawsuit levelled by a former client. During those proceedings 19th JDC Judge Tim Kelley said, "Morally and ethically the court has a severe problem with this type of thing" referring to these consultants activities.

Whoever did it and for whatever reason should have remembered Rule #1 of practicing politics on the internet: If you don't want your opponents to use it against you don't post it. Communication over the internet is permanent, it never goes away.

CURRENT VERSION OF THE VIDEO IN QUESTION:

CASSIDY & MANESS SUPPORTERS PAY CAREFUL ATTENTION: Yesterday I posted this video of Mary Landrieu qualifying.

LAST NIGHT IT WAS EDITED!. THEY TOOK OUT MARY KISSING HER BUDDY GARRET GRAVES in the office,,

The questions are why and who had the power to do that! Thousands of people had already seen the 'Cussin' Congressional candidate in action..

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Bhhod6ZEhw#t=27

ADDED: Just discovered that this video was produced and possibly edited by a political PAC. Among it's employees are Garret Grave's political consultants. You may remember them from the news a few weeks ago being sued in a contract dispute. "Morally and ethically the court has a severe problem with this type of thing" - 19th JDC Judge Tim Kelley. Guess that about sums it up.

SENSIBLE CONSERVATIVE VS. SENSATIONAL FREAK SHOWS

5TH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT- "ABRAHAM MAY HAVE THE BEST SHOT"

Political Science Professor Jeffrey D. Sadow:

http://www.jeffsadow.blogspot.com/2014/08/cd-5-nightmare-scenario-for-la-gop.html

"Rep. Vance McAlllister, leads in the only independent poll to date taken on the contest, but with an incredibly underwhelming 27 percent."

"Not far behind him at 21 percent comes Monroe Mayor Jamie Mayo, who ran in the special election against McAllister last time"

"(G)etting 18 percent was Dr. Ralph Abraham, who not only comes off as the most ideologically conservative and least establishmentarian of the bunch, but who also has decades of military and community service in the area under his belt."

"Abraham may have the best shot to make it to the runoff of the conservative Republican challengers."

YOU JUST CAN'T MAKE THIS (STUFF) UP!

GARRET GRAVES FOR CONGRESS- YOU JUST CAN'T MAKE THIS (STUFF) UP!

All good politicians like to put the best face on their campaign for office and 6th District Congressional candidate Garret Graves is no exception.

If you listened to his interview on The Jim Engster Show this morning you heard just how good he is.

He came out pretty clearly against The 'Fairness' (gay rights) proposal the Metro-Council faced last week.

He was also real clear in his support for Big Oil on the Legacy Lawsuit issue.

He completely waffled on Global Warming and the Common Core issues.

He was honest about his five year stint in higher education (three schools in three different states) must be nice.

He never received a degree. No harm in that. But, he sure held a lot of Big Government jobs without having a college degree.

One of the glaring omissions in his response was his attendance at The University of Alabama. Wonder why he left that out?

It's easy to see how Garret Graves has been able to amass so much money in his campaign fund from Big Business contributors.

What he must have told them can be summed up pretty well in this speech he made recently:

Buying Main Street: Billionaires Swamp Local Races

Buying Main Street: Billionaires swamp local races

"Frustrated by paralysis at the federal level, the nation’s wealthiest activists have set their sights with increasing frequency on state and local elections as a new route for effecting policy change. The influx of cash from outside billionaires — namely Bloomberg, the industrialist Koch brothers and environmentalist financier Tom Steyer — has upended what would otherwise be bite-size campaigns for obscure municipal and state offices."

Referencing former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg:

"In Louisiana, the business-information mogul put more than $100,000 into swinging the state board of education into the hands of supporters of the Common Core education standards."

Trending moderate: Is Baton Rouge becoming more progressive—or, at least, less conservative?

http://www.businessreport.com/8052014/Stephanie-Riegel/Trending-moderate

(Clearly, the answer is yes! Simply put it's because EBR is getting blacker. More African Americans equals more liberal Democrats. The suggestion by the author that these poll numbers are somehow "chilling to conservatives" couldn't be farther from the truth. 'White flight' has been happening in this parish for many years and will continue unless something is done to fix the school system and myriad other urban maladies we face. This parish is not just trending 'moderate' it's trending 'liberal,' Barack Obama won in EBR with 51% of the vote. In Louisiana as a whole he could only manage 38%. The thing "chilling to conservatives" around here is the political naiveté of our so called 'city leaders.' If you want Baton Rouge to be New Orleans why not just move there?)

New 5th District Poll Shows Growing Support for Dr. Ralph Abraham

Congressman Vance McAllister leads 5th District poll

(INCUMBENT AT 29% IS A GONE PECAN!)

Mayor Jamie Mayo, a black Democrat  21%

Republican Dr. Ralph Abraham  19%

Republican Zach Dasher (Duck Dynasty cousin) 14%

Others  17%

NEWS RELEASE:

ALTO, LA-  A new independent poll conducted by the Glascock Group reveals that Ralph Abraham, a family physician from Mangham, LA, is continuing to gain support as a candidate for Louisiana’s 5th Congressional District.

“I’ve never run for political office before, but I’m finding out there are a lot of voters out there that feel the same way I do. Every day, my wife Dianne and I watch the news, and we say to ourselves it can’t get any worse, and then it does,” said Abraham. “The 5th District is large, but we’re not going to take one-single vote for granted. We’ve already covered more than 5,000 miles on the campaign trail, but we’re just getting started."

“The Federal Government continues to take away our freedom, and we’ve got to draw a line in the sand. The Environmental Protection Agency continues to pass burdensome regulations that prevent our farmers from being successful. Our border is under attack, yet Washington has done nothing but give a green light to those that break the law. Our healthcare system is in shambles and Obamacare has done nothing but make matters worse. The Christian family values our nation was founded on continue to be stepped on," he said.

Dr. Ralph Abraham is a physician, veteran, pilot, farmer, and former veterinarian.

He was raised in North Louisiana and currently works as a rural physician in Mangham, LA. He is a lifelong registered Republican.

“There are times that we all want to throw up our hands in disgust. But I do believe we can help steer the ship in a different direction, and that’s why I’m running for Congress. With your help, we can restore honor and integrity to Washington," said Abraham.

PAUL DIETZEL CHANGES NAME, GARRET GRAVES MAY HAVE TO TESTIFY, SCOTT ANGELLE FOR?

EXCERPTS FROM 'LAPOLITICS WEEKLY'- ( http://lapolitics.com/lapolitics-weekly/)

By Jeremy Alford-  (https://www.facebook.com/jeremy.alford.35)

One candidate legally changed his name to match that of his famous grandfather. Two others are embroiled in a bitter lawsuit that could result in one testifying under oath. Another is happily grabbing national headlines for what would otherwise be considered negative press. And the frontrunner spent eight years in federal prison for racketeering and extortion. Ladies and gentlemen, say hello to the expected field, or most of it, in the 6th Congressional District. Qualifying is only two weeks away..

(Garret) Graves may need some of his campaign cash for legal fees for what is becoming an unpredictable legal drama. Candidate and attorney Cassie Felder, a fellow Republican from Baton Rouge, is suing one of Grave's consultants, the Political Firm, which was originally leading her campaign. She's claiming breaches of confidentiality and non-competition, and questioning at what point Graves and the firm hooked up after she received a termination letter. Even though a judge ruled this week the firm could continue its work, Graves could still potentially end up on the stand. The discovery process, according to sources involved with the litigation, "may get uncomfortable for some folks."

As Paul Dietzel fights for turf against the other Red Stick Republicans, he has become a lightning rod for accusations that bring into question one of his strongest assets: his name, which at birth was Stephen Paul Dietzel II. He had it legally changed to Paul Dietzel in January, months after announcing for Congress. That it matches the name of his famous grandfather, the late coach of the 1958 national championship LSU football team, is circumstantial, he said in a recent interview.

What is Public Service Commissioner Scott Angelle of Breaux Bridge going to do? He has been rumored to be considering either governor, which is growing unpredictable and packed, or lieutenant governor, a post the Republican once filled on an interim basis. If he can unify the Acadiana vote, a region where other major candidates have yet to surface, he could be a formidable contender. When asked about his plans, Angelle told LaPolitics, "September is a great time in Louisiana with hunting, football, food and festivals. It's also a great time for political announcements."

THE MUCK STOPS HERE!

NEWS RELEASE FROM FELDER CAMPAIGN:

BATON ROUGE- Baton Rouge attorney and congressional candidate Cassie Felder issued the following statement after the district court judge’s ruling regarding her request for injunction relief against The Political Firm:

“The judge today stated that The Political Firm is immoral and unethical in competing against me by working for Garret Graves. He said that it was wrong, though he was bound by his oath to deny my injunction request on a technicality. The court stated that the denial of injunction in no way reflected an opinion on the merits of the at-large case, and pledged efficiency in moving forward on it.

The Political Firm must argue in the case moving forward that it can mislead clients with false assurances of protection from violations of confidentiality and direct competition using ill-gotten information and resources based on flaws in its very own contract. Scott Hobbs and The Political Firm argued this position in public today.

Though the court denied the injunction, I got precisely what I wanted. I wanted public recognition that the Political Firm’s behavior is immoral and unethical, and I got it. Frankly, I was surprised at their audacity to fight this in public, as they chose. All indications are that they will continue.

BREAKING NEWS: HEARING SET FOR INJUNCTION AGAINST GARRET GRAVES POLITICAL CONSULTANTS

BREAKING NEWS: HEARING SET FOR INJUNCTION AGAINST GARRET GRAVES POLITICAL CONSULTANTS (Confirmed Sources)

WEDNESDAY, 9:30 AM, 19TH JDC JUDGE TIM KELLEY

NEWS RELEASE FROM FELDER CAMPAIGN ISSUED LAST WEEK

BATON ROUGE - Cassie Felder, a local business owner, attorney, and candidate for U.S. Representative in Louisiana’s 6th District, issued the following statement today regarding the injunction she filed against The Political Firm:

“Today I filed for injunctive relief against Jason Hebert and Scott Hobbs, demanding that they immediately cease their involvement in the Garret Graves for Congress campaign according to the terms of the contract they issued to me, to which we all agreed, and that we all signed. The contract includes a critical Non-Competition clause, without which no candidate with wisdom would have agreed to sign.

Their disregard for their own agreement and unilateral decision to compete against me in the same election and in direct violation of our contract, in no way relieves them of their obligations and duties under contract law and the fundamental principles of honesty, honor, and morality.

Louisiana politics has a reputation for being unethical and cut-throat. The actions of “The Political Firm” reinforce these negative perceptions about our state and its political culture. Changing this culture and image are two of my top priorities as a candidate for Congress.”
