David Vitter and John Bel Edwards waste no time to kick off general election

David Vitter and John Bel Edwards waste no time to kick off general election

The two remaining candidates for governor wasted little time launching their campaigns for the Nov. 21 runoff.

State Rep. John Bel Edwards, a Democrat who led in the primary Saturday (Oct. 24), held a next-day news conference he said was meant to set a tone of openness with reporters in the last month of the election. Edwards took questions for about 20 minutes, telling reporters he expects a tough fight with U.S. Sen. David Vitter. Edwards is seeking endorsements from his two former Republican opponents.

COMMENTARY: A VOTE FOR DAVID VITTER IN THE PRIMARY IS A VOTE FOR JOHN BEL EDWARDS IN THE RUNOFF, ANGELLE IS THE BEST CHOICE!

COMMENTARY: A VOTE FOR DAVID VITTER IN THE PRIMARY IS A VOTE FOR JOHN BEL EDWARDS IN THE RUNOFF

With all the recent independent polling showing that David Vitter trails all three of the other contenders in head-to-head runoff match ups, even when paired with Democrat John Bel Edwards, it is very clear that a vote for Vitter is really a vote for Edwards. If you are a conservative Republican who does not want to see a Democrat elected Governor it's a no brainer. If Vitter can't win in a runoff, why throw away your vote and advance the fortunes of the Democrat?

An odds-on favorite and and top fundraiser at the beginning of this race Vitter's following has slowly melted away to the point where he is too weak to beat even the Democrat in a runoff scenario. That Democrat led ticket in the runoff would also have horrible implications on all the remaining down ballot races featuring a Democrat versus a Republican.

Louisiana Governor races seldom turn out as expected in the beginning. This contest is no exception... Conservatives Beware!

ANOTHER BIG ENDORSEMENT FOR ATTORNEY GENERAL BUDDY CALDWELL

ANOTHER BIG ENDORSEMENT FOR ATTORNEY GENERAL BUDDY CALDWELL

LAKE CHARLES AMERICAN PRESS EDITORIAL:

One of the toughest decisions for voters may be the selection of the next state attorney general. Attorney General Buddy Caldwell was first elected in 2007 and re-elected in 2011 without opposition. The Louisiana Sheriffs Association and a number of district attorneys and law enforcement leaders have endorsed him.

Jeff Landry, who served one term in the U.S. House, is the favorite of the state Republican Party and conservative groups and will be Caldwell’s stiffest competition. However, like Vitter, Landry has conducted a vicious personal campaign that doesn’t serve the state well. It gives me good reason to stick with the incumbent.

CONSERVATIVES BEWARE! LOBBYIST PAULA DAVIS CANDIDATE IN HOUSE 69 FUNDS DEMOCRATS

CONSERVATIVES BEWARE!

LOBBYIST PAULA DAVIS FUNDS DEMOCRATS

Paula Davis, her husband, and her family’s companies have given thousands of dollars to liberal Democrats and to groups that support liberals like Senator Harry Reid, and Nancy Pelosi.

Paula and her family’s contributions funded the effort to defeat Senator Bill Cassidy in his race against Liberal Mary Landrieu.

Paula Davis is a lobbyist and a political insider.

She has repeatedly given money to Democrats.

Supported a bill to clone and kill human embryos

Backed Obama’s war against the oil and gas industry

Voted to raise taxes and opposed Conservative Senator Bill Cassidy

If Lobbyist Paula Davis gives money to Liberals,
will she vote with Liberals too?

Davis is a candidate for House District 69 in Baton Rouge.

BUSINESS REPORT & NRA ENDORSE BUDDY CALDWELL FOR ATTORNEY GENERAL

BUSINESS REPORT & NRA ENDORSE BUDDY CALDWELL FOR ATTORNEY GENERAL

BUSINESS REPORT EDITORIAL:

Many coaches win because of the team they assemble around them. Many district attorneys and law enforcement officials support Caldwell because of the results of the team at the attorney general’s office. The head coach appropriately gets the credit. Caldwell leads the team.

Caldwell and his team have been very successful in settlements and fines against pharmaceutical companies and BP, getting millions for the state and the taxpayers.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services even ranked his office No. 1 in the nation in criminal Medicaid fraud recovery and No. 1 in efficiency.

Caldwell, who is a former district attorney with much trial experience, faces former congressman Jeff Landry, who has never tried a criminal case before a jury. That is a big difference.

MOST LIBERAL PAPER ENDORSES VITTER, MOST CONSERVATIVE ENDORSES ANGELLE

BUSINESS REPORT ENDORSES:

Governor: Scott Angelle

While there are four major candidates to lead Louisiana for the next four years, my choice was only between two: Scott Angelle and Jay Dardenne. (I have already shared my opinions on David Vitter and John Bel Edwards, neither of whom would benefit our future.)
I have known and worked with Angelle and Dardenne for years and endorsed both in the past. I admire and respect them and appreciate their leadership for our state in multiple capacities.
There will be tough challenges in the year ahead, and it will require developing solutions and most importantly building consensus in our state and Legislature for Louisiana to succeed in the future. I believe Scott Angelle can best accomplish this as governor.
Angelle has been a leader as parish president, interim lieutenant governor, secretary of Natural Resources and member of the Public Service Commission. He also serves on the LSU Board of Supervisors and helped start the Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority.
Angelle has conservative values and cares about people. I heard his fiery speech after the oil spill, when he fought the moratorium by President Barack Obama. He rallied the people.
He is a family man, passionate about our state, who has great people skills. That was evident when both houses of the Legislature voted unanimously to approve his appointment as interim lieutenant governor. It’s hard not to like Scott Angelle. He gets along and works well with folks. That humble, servant leadership will benefit him and our state well as governor for the next four years.

COMMENTARY: The most liberal newspaper in the state endorsed Vitter and the most conservative endorsed Angelle. This furthers the theory that the liberals are conspiring to get Vitter in the runoff so they have a Republican they can beat. As I have said before, a vote for Vitter is a vote for 'the Democrat John Bel Edwards' in the runoff. The latest independent polling shows Vitter losing in the runoff to the Democrat.. All the other Republicans win!

VITTER STILL DUCKING DEBATES, REFUSES TO ATTEND UNSCRIPTED EVENTS

Vitter’s absence at TV debates rankles competitors

http://www.theadvertiser.com/story/opinion/columnists/2015/10/12/vitters-absence-tv-debates-rankles-competitors/73767224/

They accuse Vitter, a U.S. senator, of refusing to attend unscripted events, engage in real policy debates or interact directly with voters. They say he doesn’t want to participate in question-and-answer sessions where he can’t see the questions in advance or control the forum style.

Vitter’s also got high unfavorable numbers in polls and the baggage of an eight-year-old prostitution scandal, which threaten his ability to make the Nov. 21 runoff, so he needs to hang onto his core base of support.
Unscripted, wide-open TV debates are a risk that a candidate can be forced off-message or pushed to answer uncomfortable questions.
